Malaysia

Malaysia

Picture
Malaysia is a quiet relaxed place, crammed with delicious tasty food! There are lush thick jungles, cool green highlands, full of tea plantations, Tropical island paradises, pristine beaches, old colonial towns and a sprawling modern capitol.
There is alot to see and do here and a great place to take it easy.

Kuala Lumpur

Picture
The Bustling capitol of Malaysia.
there is a lot to see and do here.
The big must do is the famous Patronas Towers
pictured here,
they are the headquarters of the Petronas petrochemical Company and are truly an impressive sight.
you can pay to go up to the skybridge connecting the two towers, but i think the Menara Sky tower, offers far better views of the city. Be sure to walk around to the small park behind the towers to check out the amazing water fountain show. every hour in the evening a spectacular music, water and light show splashes in to action!
Menara Sky Tower
The Menara Sky Tower is a large telecoms tower in the city, it offers amazing 360 degree views of the city. It has a Glazed observation deck open until 9.30pm. There is an upper deck which for a little extra cost will see you outside giving great photo ops, this area closes at 6pm and during rain or winds, so check the weather!

Batu Caves
About 13km north of KL, there is a large limestone hill laced with spectacular caves and temples. It is one of the most important Hindu shrines outside India. There are yearly festivals here and is well worth going to see. Be careful of the Monkeys! Easily reached by Komuter Train from KL Sentral, costing 2RM one way.

Penang

Picture
The island of Penang, famous for its delicious food. Penang offers plenty of extremely delicious and cheap Malaysian food. The island is famed throughout the rest of the country and indeed South East Asia for specialities such as Char Koay Teow, Penang Laksa, and Nasi Kandar, which are found around every turn on the island. There are countless food stalls around Georgetown, Batu Ferringhi & pretty much the whole island, a foodies edible dream!

Georgetown, the Capital of Penang is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is crammed with old temples, mosques, and colonial buildings, great for a walk around, and watch the world go by.
Up by Batu Ferringhi is a beach area of Penang. There is some great night markets here and delicious food too. Plenty of accommodation available, Hotels and Guesthouses.
also if you are at all a musician, a great hostel awaits you..contact me.

Langkawi

Malacca

Picture
A relaxed Colonial town, about an hour from Kuala Lumpur, crammed with great food, night markets, old streets and beautiful temples & Churches. A great place to relax, take a walk and eat delicious food!! Do Try the Chicken Rice Balls!!

  • Old Town Heritage Area,
Take a walk along  Jonker street and its surrounds. The old buildings often intricately decorated, give an authentic insight into the trading past of this attractive little town
  • Melaka River
Great for a walk or for a cycle around, keep an eye of for some huge monitor lizards
  • Trishaws, Complete with disco lights and crazy music offer day trips around the towns sights
Picture
The Norths Beautiful Island Paradise, Mountains, Beaches, Monkeys, great food, snorkeling, and Thailand just a speedboat ride away. Plenty to see and do here.
There are loads of snorkeling trips available to some of the many smaller islands of the coast, and plenty of family friendly beaches,
The main tourist street is along Pentai Cenang Beach. Here you will lots of cafe's, all sorts of restaurants, convenience store's etc. If you are after some authentic food head in land. There are many local restaurants along the roads offering cheap, delicious buffet style eating
Some To Do's
  • Cable car & Skybridge
Some pretty spectacular views of the lush surrounding mountainside are on offer from the summit. You can purchase tickets at the small Oriental Village a  kind of French/ Chinese mishmash old town. At the top of the mountain is the Skybridge. If you are afraid of heights you might have a hard time with this one. The bridge itself is a curved suspension bridge almost floating high above the mountainous jungle below.
  • WaterFalls
There are numerous waterfalls located around the island, some reduce to a trickle in the dry season so best view after some rain!
  • Eagle Square
A massive 12 metre tall monument of a sea eagle preparing for flight stands beside the Kuah Jetty and greets arriving visitors to Langkawi. The area is surrounded by a park and ponds, great for a walk around.

Getting Around
You might need to rent a car or moped while you stay here. no public transport only Taxis. it costs about 24RM for a taxi from onside to the other, you can rent a car for about 50RM a day and it is a great way to see the whole Island

Cameron Highlands

Picture
The Langkawi Skybridge...EEEK!!
Picture
BOH Tea Plantation (Best Of Tea)
Picture
The Cameron Highlands.
A Cool highland getaway from the tropical heat below. Lush green rolling hills, Crammed with never ending tea plantations as far as the eye can see. With the BOH plantation (Best of Highlands) being the main attraction. Definitely worth a visit.
It is free to go and walk around the plantations, you can of course go inside the factory and learn all about the history and current tea growing process. There is a "Cafe" or the Tea equivalent offering a taste of all sorts of amazing specialty teas

Cameron Highlands are easily accessible by bus and minivan from loads of places around Malaysia
so you should have no problem getting here!
You will most likely be staying in
Tanah Rata the main town in the area. There is not a whole lot to the little town itself except places to stay and a street lined with some pretty decent restaurants and cafes.

Onward Travel

Thailand,
There are plenty of options for travelling North in to Thailand, Train, plane boat or bus.
You can catch a speed boat from Langkawi to beautiful Koh Lipe and island hop your way up to Krabi. Or there are trains and buses all the way to Bangkok. Either from KL or Butterworth (Malaysia) Connecting at Hat Yai (Thailand)

If catching the speedboat from Langkawi, the boat company will bring you through emigration, and one you are stamped out of Malaysia you will all be brought to the speed boat. There is a small immigration office on Koh Lipe which you will be brought to when you arrive.
Remember if you dont have a VISA already for Thailand, You will only receive 15 days Visa free on arrival at any land border. However if you fly in you will receive  30 days.
We got a 3 month Visa in Kuala Lumpur before we went so we could relax and take our time island hopping up the coast and not have to worry about the Visa.
